If you're looking for another stunning lit RPG read then look no further than this he title than Cosimo Yap . This book is very similar to a few SciFi lit RPG like Universe Online, Phantom Server and Perimeter Defense :Sector Eight in that they take place in space . Its an action packed fast paced book where virtual reality warfare is used to wage intergalactic war to avoid the destruction of the universe due to the different alien races warring with each other. In this book earth has been recently introduced to the intergalactic community and as such is been given an immunity to attack for a period of time while the humans race acclimates to the rules of combat . Like Phantom Server thee are many different mods,biological and technological that can be used to augment your abilities. This story follows the main character as he is introduced to "The Game" and how he struggles to overcoming obstacles and gain strength in order to help save humanity from slavery or total annihilation (in the game of course) . Written mostly from a first-person POV, the novel is a fantastical Sci-Fi adventure of a young man taken from ordinary life and given the opportunity to join "The Game," a universal virtual-reality with real-world implications.
Join Alan, a Machine Lord Rogue, assisted by his omnipresent AI, Eve, as they wholeheartedly trudge forward into the unknown. They will face terrorist attacks, practically omnipotent figures, and the many consequences that arise from their actions. Every step they take will unleash new possibilities, new choices, and new insight to the reality around them.
This was and is a web-novel and has been critiqued by many readers throughout its development. This is just the first book in what has great potential in being a Sci-Fi classic; the kind of book that sets the tone for following novels to come for many years. The ideas may be considered cliche but are incorporated such that the novel is now more that the sum of its parts.
TL;DR
I really like this book. Unfortunately, I feel this book series may end up like the sequels to a different novel, Princes of the Earth (written by Michael Kurland) unfinished. However, I await with bated breath for either's sequel should they ever come. Small shout-out to the author "You'd like the previously mentioned novel. It isn't VR but it matches your style and has some interesting ideas that would fit well in your books."
This was an unexpected find through the LitRPG Facebook group. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It has mysteries galore and a good balance of LitRPG and normal writing. One thing I notice in this genre is that the real world tends to be glossed over(which I hate). No difference here except there's some connection back to the real world.
Bottom line this book is fun and keeps the pace fast enough so you're not bored. I was actively engaged the whole time and read it in a few days. If you like the LitRPG genre this book is great and I highly recommend it.
If you don't know what LitRPG is its basically a genre in which characters do things inside a video game they connect to from the real world. The life of the person mostly happens through the game so it includes tons of info on skills learned, points, and decision making on these topics.
This is a great addition to the genre. I loved it and can't wait to see what happens next.
I bought the book, then bought the audiobook becuase I love it taht much and the audiobook made it worth every penny. The narrator made me look at the main character in a new light and brought me even more into this world. I haven't been this engrossed in a series since "The way of the shaman" which has been years. You have a winner here. The one downside is it reads like a literal LitRPG, so when a new major ability comes available get ready for 2 or 3 min of straight stat-readout. I say this because I hate it but realize its a needed part of the book to fully understand the skills used which is why it is still 5 stars. All I can say is hurry it up on the rest of the series as I am checking anything related to you for an update as to the release of book 2.
I really liked this work. I try not to give very many 5 stars as a way to highlight what I think is top notch. Now, to be fair I think this just barely qualified for my 5 star level. "Ready Player One" which is a very similar genre/style and is better but not by a lot. If you liked RPO then I can almost guarantee you will like this one. I am not one for detailing what a book is about in the review. First it can be a spoiler and second it is what blurbs are for. It has a modern day yet sci-fi feel. It is intelligently written that is original and does not talk down or spoon feed the reader. I have not checked if this author has any other works but I plan to. Some of my favorite authors are Niel Gaimen, John Scalzi. Some titles I appreciate are "Its a dirty job", "Lamb", "Robopocolyps", "Scar" by China M and pretty much all works by the Bard and Vern. If this resonates with you then we might have similar tastes. Good luck and happy reading.
